Ear Conditions and Treatments
Though we often take our ability to swallow and speak for granted, many individuals experience difficulties with these essential tasks. Pain, discomfort, and a lack of control when trying to speak can significantly affect quality of life.
At Bridger Ear, Nose and Throat, our experienced providers provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for a wide range of voice and swallowing disorders. We are specially trained to help restore function to your voice and address various throat-related conditions.
Common Throat Conditions We Treat:
Throat Reflux (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease - LPRD): A condition where stomach acid flows up into the back of the throat, causing irritation and discomfort. Often seen in patients with chronic cough and throat clearing, lump like feelings in the throat, hoarseness, and excessive mucous production or post-nasal drip symptoms.
Hoarseness: Changes in voice quality, present for more than a month, can be due to medical issues which can be improved with proper diagnostic evaluation and careful management.
Laryngitis: Inflammation of the larynx, often leading to loss of voice or a raspy voice.
Sore Throat: Pain or irritation in the throat, which can be caused by infections, allergies, or other irritants.
Swallowing Disorders: Difficulties in swallowing can stem from various causes, including neurological conditions or structural issues.
Recurrent Tonsillitis: Frequent infections of the tonsils can lead to discomfort and complications.
Chronic Tonsillitis/Tonsil Stones: Persistent tonsil inflammation can cause persistent and episodes of throat pain. Tonsil stones, white to yellow particles arising from the pits of the tonsils, can cause persistent bad breath and discomfort.
Laryngoscopy: A specialized examination method for examining the voice box (larynx), back of the throat (pharynx), and base of the tongue. This examination uses a slender flexible camera (endoscope) placed through the nose to examine these areas. These areas are nearly impossible to see on routine examination and make diagnosis of conditions otherwise difficult. We use high resolution, high-definition distal chip digital endoscopes which are smaller and more comfortable than industry standard scopes. This technology allows our providers to take digital pictures and videos of your examination to reinforce teaching and demonstrate the elements of your diagnosis.
Stroboscopy or Stroboscopic Laryngoscopy: A highly specialized method for examination of the vocal cords/vocal folds and the voice box (larynx) which allows for slow-motion video capture of vocal cord movement, improving the ability to diagnose subtle findings affecting voice. This examination uses a slender flexible camera (endoscope) placed through the nose to examine these areas. We use high resolution, high-definition distal chip digital stroboscopic endoscopes. This technology allows our providers to take digital pictures and videos of your examination to reinforce teaching and demonstrate the elements of your diagnosis.
Direct Laryngoscopy and Micro-Laryngoscopy: Surgical procedures in the operative room that allow for direct visualization of the larynx to diagnose and surgically treat voice disorders.
